Valley  Biochar  is  a  family owned company  formed  to  provide  the best  quality  biochar and  soil  amendments  possible. Founder,  Michael Garjian,  has  been  working  with  biochar and  biochar manufacturing  systems  since 2006.    As  such, he helped to  develop the first industrial scale,  research grade,  biochar manufacturing facility in the world.   The  biochar  he produced was the first ever to receive an advanced  level  certification  from  the  International Biochar Initiative.  The products were so advanced that the Organic Materials Research  Institute (OMRI)  created  a  new  category  in its  list of certified  materials,  in order to recognize Garjian's achievements in biochar development.

Mr. Garjian is  a  social  entrepreneur  who  has been recognized in his pioneering work in alternative, sustainable, economic systems. His  book  Community Capitalism  is  the definitive  work  that  instructs  communities  on  how  to  use the tool of capitalism to create significant amounts of community wealth to serve the common good.

As such,  our  corporate  goal  is  to achieve  adequate  profits and  sustainable  growth for the common good.  Thus, we do not accept investment  capital  from  traditional  venture  capital  sources  interested  only  in  maximizing  profits.  We use alternative sources of capital  and  work  with  family  farmer owned coops  dedicated to the  advancement of agriculture,  the support of family farmers and small local businesses, and the creation of high quality, long lasting, affordable products.

As  a  social  enterprise,  Valley  Biochar  has  met  the  Gold Logo  requirements  of  E2M.org  by  setting  aside  10%  of  its  corporate equity for ownership by the community and by our employees as part of our goal to build a shared economy.  We welcome you to join Michael,  his  wife  Irene,  and  their daughter  Robin in  their  endeavor  to  achieve  socioeconomic,  environmental,  and  agricultural sustainability.
